Very Sweet Incense

Benzoin: Often described as the "vanilla of the incense world." It contains high levels of benzoic or cinnamic acid, which give it a distinct, creamy sweetness is a balsamic resin obtained from the bark of several species of trees in the genus Styrax. In the world of incense making, it serves as a foundational ingredient, valued primarily for its role as a fixative. This means it helps slow the evaporation of more volatile essential oils, allowing the fragrance to linger much longer in the air. When burned, benzoin acts as a bridge between lighter floral notes and deeper woody base notes, producing a thick, white smoke that carries a rich, comforting aroma. It is frequently found in traditional "temple" blends and is a staple in the production of Friar's Balsam and various liturgical incenses.
